In Guatemala as in other countries in Latin America, the 1st of November is the Day of the Dead. Families bring food and flowers to the cemeteries to decorate the tombs of their dead as they believe this is the time they come back to spend some time with them. Both children and adults fly kites, in some towns giant ones, so the sound of the tissue paper against the wind will keep the bad spirits away and guide their loved ones back for one day.
