In San Pedro Sacatepéquez, "Rito" the donkey takes its yearly walk across town. Every Palm Sunday he is in charge of carrying the image of Jesus from the house of the appointed family to the village's church, while being celebrated with flowers and palm branches to commemorate Jesus' triumphal entrance to the city of Jerusalem on the Sunday before Easter.
