The Captains of All Saints
In Todos Santos Cuchumatán Huehuetenango (312 kms from Guatemala city), All Saints Day is unique. The celebrations last a week, as the holiday coincides with the town's patron saint festivities.
Some men in town have the title of "First Captain", and their role is to gather a group of friends to help them organize a party with abundant liquor and dancing. The tradition states that they have to drink the whole afternoon and night, to run the first horse race in the morning of the 1st of November.
